For my Master’s thesis, I am currently working with USGS, USFWS, NPS, and the Devils Hole pupfish Recovery Team on aspects of the conservation and recovery of the critically endangered Devils Hole pupfish. My research specifically focuses on investigating factors driving spawning in Devils Hole pupfish, with implications for management in the wild population as well laboratory propagation applications. Research objectives are (1) to develop efficient, minimally invasive methods to remotely monitor pupfish activity and environmental conditions within Devils Hole, and (2) assess relationships between environmental conditions and spawning behavior so we may better understand the factors that drive pupfish reproduction within this extreme environment.
