GIS Certificate Application
Prospective students who are not currently attending the University of Arizona must apply to the UA Graduate College and to the GIS Certificate Program. Degree seeking students enrolled in programs outside of the School of Natural Resources and the Environment or the School of Geography and Development must register through Graduate Admissions for a second program of study. Please note: when applying for admission to a Graduate Certificate program, do not apply as a non-degree seeking student.
Students pursuing a degree within the School of Natural Resources and the Environment or the School of Geography and Development will submit a Change of Program form (Change of Degree) to the Graduate College.
There is no departmental fee for applying to the GIS Certificate Program. However, there is a fee to apply for admission to the University of Arizona Graduate College. GRE scores are not required for admission to the program.
The GIS Certificate application consists of:
- Application form
- Transcripts: Official transcripts from all colleges/universities other than the University of Arizona; unofficial transcripts from UA
- A letter of intent describing your motivation and goals for participating in the GIS Certificate Program
- One paragraph describing your technical background (technical proficiency is a prerequisite)
- One confidential letter of recommendation from a faculty or professional

Once a student is admitted into the GIS Certificate Program, a curriculum advisor will be assigned.
In a student's second semester of being enrolled in the program, a Certificate Plan of Study must be filed with the Graduate College.
