GIS Certificate Application

The Graduate Certificate in GIS program accepts applications year-round and there is no limit to the number of students accepted into the program during any given semester.  The Graduate College's application fee for Certificate Seeking Graduate Students is $75.

  • Prospective Applicants must have both a Bachelor's degree or it's equivalent and a 3.0 G.P.A. 
  • Applications are accepted on a continuing basis. There are no deadlines for applying to this program (however there are suggested deadlines listed on the FAQ page).
  • There is no departmental GIS Certificate Program application fee, but there is a fee for the U of A Graduate College application.
  • GRE scores are not required. 
  • International students must have a TOEFL score above 79.

Applying to the GIS Certificate program is a two step process

FIRST: All students must submit the GIS Certificate Application which consists of:

  • Application form
  • Transcripts: Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended
  • A letter of intent describing your motivation and goals for participating in the GIS Certificate Program
  • One paragraph describing your technical background (computer proficiency is a prerequisite)
  • One confidential letter of recommendation from a faculty or professional

SECOND:  Depending on your enrollment status, you will need to fill out an online application with the Graduate College.

Non-degree seeking students who are not currently attending the University of Arizona:

1.  Submit the GIS Certificate application

2.  Apply to the UA Graduate College as a Certificate seeking student.

3.  Once accepted for admission to both the GIS Certificate Program and the U of A Graduate College, register for classes online through the Outreach College, or call (520) 621-7724      
 
 
Degree seeking students currently enrolled in U of A programs outside of the School of Natural Resources and the Environment or the School of Geography and Development:
 
1.  Submit the GIS Certificate application
 
2.  Apply to the UA Graduate College for a 2nd graduate program as a Certificate seeking student.  
 
3.  Once accepted for admission to both the GIS Certificate Program and the U of A Graduate College, register for classes online through the U of A
 
 
Degree seeking students currently enrolled in U of A programs inside the School of Natural Resources and the Environment or the School of Geography and Development:
 
1.  Submit the GIS Certificate application
 
2.  Submit a Change of Program form (to add the certificate as the secondary program) through My GradColl.  
  
3.  Once accepted for admission to both the GIS Certificate Program and the U of A Graduate College, register for classes online through the U of A.  

 

 
 
Curriculum Advisor
Students is admitted into the GIS Certificate Program need to find a curriculum advisor. (See FAQ page for details.)
 
International Students                                                                                          
International Students must demonstrate proficiency in English as one of the conditions for admission to the UA Graduate College. Testing is available through the UA Testing Office.
