Curriculum Vitae:

Larry recently joined the SNRE as a Research Professor (October 2011). His interests focus on environmental conflict and mediation, public lands policy, large landscape conservation, and international conservation and sustainable development.

Larry earned a Masters in International Agriculture and Rural Development, and a PhD in Forest Policy and Management, both from Cornell University. His early career interests focused on grass roots work in agriculture and forestry extension, community and rural development, social forestry, watershed management, and conservation of protected areas, both in the United States and internationally. He has worked for a number of NGOs and international development agencies (e.g., Ford Foundation, World Neighbors, United Nations Development Programs, CARE International, Save the Children, The Nature Conservancy, World Education, and the International Development Research Center), primarily in Southeast Asia and in Latin America. From 1993 – 2001 he coordinated programs for the Cornell International Institute for Food, Agriculture, and Development (CIIFAD), and for Cornell’s Program on Environment and Community (Center for the Environment).

Prior to joining SNRE, Larry worked for 10 years as a federal mediator for the US Institute for Environmental Conflict Resolution, coordinating their Public Lands and Resources program. In that role, he supervised facilitation and/or mediation of more than 200 federal disputes related to forest management and restoration, species and habitat conservation, recreation, mining, oil and gas leasing, and watershed and ecosystem management.
