UA Natural Resources students trained by leaders of the Arizona Game and Fish Department
Students from the Wildlife and Fisheries Science Program’s Biopolitics class (WFSC 595a) met with Arizona Game and Fish Department staff; including Deputy and Assistant Directors and several Branch Chiefs in an all-day training session on May 4th at the Phoenix AZGFD headquarters. They learned how a natural resource agency works with the public and other agencies to accomplish its mission; and case histories demonstrating the importance of specific communication and negotiation skills needed to succeed in the fish and wildlife profession. The ability to work successfully with the public and other conservation professionals is critical for success in natural resource conservation and management. Biopolitics is an intense one-semester course that teaches graduate and upper-level undergraduate students communication skills such as verbal judo, persuasion, negotiation, working with the media and other skills critical for scientists and natural resource managers.
