SNRE students and faculty lead at major fire conference

Students and faculty from the School recently played a leading role at the Southwestern Conference of the Association for Fire Ecology (AFE) in Santa Fe, New Mexico (http://www.humboldt.edu/swfire/). Associate Professor Don Falk presented or co-presented 8 papers and posters, joined by UA students Alex Arizpe, Jesse Minor, Josh Conver, Jacquie Dewar, Kit O'Connor and Laura Marshall, all members of the Fire and Restoration Ecology Laboratory as well as Pete Ffolliott (SNRE), Erica Bigio and Ellis Margolis (LTRR) and Geoff Towne (SGD). Falk, Tom Swetnam (Director of the UA Laboratory of Tree-Ring Research and joint SNRE Professor), and Julio Betancourt (USGS-UA) were also invited to give presentations in the opening and closing plenary sessions. Falk served on the Conference Program Committee as well as the Executive Board of the Southwest Fire Science Consortium (SWFSC), which co-organized the meeting with AFE. UA students were awarded travel grants from both AFE and SWFSC, in recognition of their contributions to fire science.
