Bufflegrass Removal Technicians

We are moving forward with efforts to control buffelgrass on the Santa Rita Experimental Range this year. Those efforts are being financed by the US Fish and Wildlife Service' Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program and the USDA Agricultural Research Service's Southwest Watershed Research Center. Eventually, we will spend a week spraying bufflegrass with glyphosate herbicide in early August 2008 and 2009.

In preparation for that spraying, we will be conducting surveys in the next few weeks to locate any currently unknown populations of buffelgrass and to evaluate the results of the spraying we performed in August 2007.

I am asking for your help by participating in these surveys. We need people who can walk long distances, identify buffelgrass from a moderate distance, operate global positioning systems (GPS), and shuttle survey groups among locations.

Aaryn Olsson and I will be leading these surveys and we are looking for assistants. We can pay assistants $10/hour.

At this time, surveys are scheduled for Monday 17 March 08, Monday 24 March 08, Wednesday 26 March 08, and Friday 28 March 08. These surveys will begin early in the day and last most of the day. More survey dates will be scheduled in the future.

If you are interested in helping, please indicate to me, via email, the dates (below) that you are available, and I will contact you to confirm the details of that survey.

Monday (17 March 08)

Monday (24 March 08)

Wednesday (26 March 08)

Friday (28 March 08)

In addition, please provide a phone number where I can reach you if scheduling questions arise.

Contact me if you have questions regarding this effort.
