
Alejandro Castillo, a masters student in Wildlife Conservation and Management, was awarded the National Youth Award for Conservation in Mexico City last week. As sub-director of CEDO Intercultural and coordinator of coastal conservation, he has led efforts to protect fragile wetlands and promote eco-tourism in Sonora, Mexico. Alejandro spoke with El Universal newspaper after the award, offering to trade his gold medal and $13,000.00 of prize money for improved public policy in his country. He noted, also, the important link between social justice and environmental protection. Alejandro's studies in the School of Natural Resources are preparing him for further leadership in the environmental field in Mexico. Congratulations Alejandro!
