Rosa Jessen
I got my undergrad degree at Universidad
Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima,
Peru. While I
was in school I assisted with different projects either in the lab or in the
field. I've worked with wasps and moths in the lab as a biological pest control
for corn crops. I've also worked with small mammals, penguins, sea lions and
fur seals assisting with population dynamics, animal behavior and ecological
projects.
I have enjoyed my research and experiences here in the USA tremendously. I loved working for a couple of animal hospitals and I feel I learned skills that could be applied in the field.
Last year I worked for the Red Squirrel Monitoring
Program on Mount Graham,
and I just returned from Texas
after working for The Nature Conservancy with t
he endangered black-capped
vireos.
Right now I am starting my master in science degree with emphasis on wildlife conservation and management, having Dr. John Koprowski as my advisor. Our project will be done in Peru working with various species of squirrels. There is little research done on them and we'll try to learn as much as we can. Ideally we'll be putting radio collars to look at home ranges and how they are using the jungle.
My interest lies in mammals. I would love to use my experience and everything I am learning to help with conservation and management of the large biodiversity of wildlife that Peru has.
