The Conway Lab brings science to managers in a new 'Fire Science Brief'.

The US Department of Agriculture's Joint Fire Science Program publishes a Fire Science Brief each month with the goal of getting high quality and relevant research findings into the hands of managers. November's Brief features work by Dr. Courtney Conway, an Associate Professor in SNR and Assistant Unit Leader at the USGS Arizona Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit - and members of his research staff: Senior Research Specialist Chris Kirkpatrick and Wildlife Biologist Dominic LaRoche. The report highlights the effects of fire, and fire suppression, on Buff-breasted Flycatchers, a rare species of the Southwest, and presents implications of the research for management. A 'Manager's Viewpoint' section of the report gives a resource manager the opportunity to interpret and apply the research to their work. Communications of this kind are key in bringing the science developed in the School of Natural Resources to real landscapes.
