As Unit Leader of the USGS Arizona Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, I focus on fisheries research and training students on topics critical to management and conservation. My research focuses on desert fish conservation, fisheries management, and natural resources communication and education. Our lab has been involved in the biology and management of native-nonnative fish interactions across the western United States; propagation of threatened and endangered desert fishes, temperature tolerances of Arizona fishes, and life history studies of fishes of the desert Southwest. In addition I am leading a project through the American Fisheries Society to standardize inland fish monitoring methods across North America. I believe strong "people" skills are required for successful resource management and I enjoy researching methods in natural resource education and communication.
